Amidst the COVID-19 lockdown, Zoom becomes the most downloaded Android app in India. Moreover, the app no longer sends data to Facebook and has resolved an issue pertaining to the same. The popular video conferencing app has now climbed to the top spot on Google Play Store. Zoom attains the top spot by dethroning WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter among others.

Zoom recently had to face heat from tech-savvy enthusiasts after a popular tech portal reported that the iOS version of the app shares data with Facebook. Even if you don’t have an account with Facebook, the app reportedly sends information on the background silently. Zoom was quick to reach and issued an update to its iOS app, which fixed the issue.

With the release of the new update, it became clear that the app indeed sends data to Facebook without the user’s consent. According to Zoom Founder Eric Yuan, the company is currently reviewing protocols and processes to implement features that share data with Facebook. Yuan added the privacy of users is critical for the company. Zoom app no longer integrates Facebook SDK for iOS and encourages users to update the app.

Zoom enables up to 50 participants to join a video conference call with the help of the basic version. You should note that Zoom is the only app on the Android Play Store that permits more than 10 people to join a call. The app gained popularity among IT professionals because of this feature.

As of this writing, Zoom has over 50 million downloads on Google Play Store and the numbers are increasing on a daily basis.

After the eruption of COVID-19, there has been a spike in the usage of mobile apps. Interestingly, WhatsApp slipped to the 5th position despite a heavy surge in the usage. The company also slashed the total duration of the video status call to 15 seconds from the default 30 seconds. The Facebook-owned messenger was in the 2nd position with over 400 million users in India.

With companies advocating their employees to work from home, the total number of Zoom users has increased significantly. Zoom is one of the companies, which got huge benefit as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Zoom specializes in remote working and video conferencing technology to improve the ultimate productivity of IT professionals.
