Xiaomi has finally brought the long-awaited affordable fitness tracker- the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 in India. The conglomerate’s India handles introduced the new Mi Band and a host of other Xiaomi products (including IoT products) at its ‘Smart Living’ event. The smart band is the standard variant of the Huami Amazfit Band 5 that was launched in the US a week ago.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 Specifications Overview:
The new Mi Band 5 doesn’t look much different from that of the previous Mi Band 4 model. However, you now get a bigger display and some added health features which were missing on the previous iteration. The fitness tracker offers a 20 percent larger screen area and supports a 100 percent P3 color gamut. There are over 65 watch faces pre-loaded in the tracker.
Also, users will now get a Photo watch face which will let them pick a photo from their phone’s gallery and set as a background. The tracker doesn’t have any button, instead, it offers touch gestures. The PPG heart rate sensor sits at the center of the back panel. Xiaomi notes that the upgraded PPG sensor will now be able to provide 50 percent more accurate heart rate monitoring.
The new Mi Band 5 from Xiaomi provides 11 sports modes like yoga, indoor swim, elliptical machine, rope skipping among others. Besides the basic fitness tracking activities (24×7 heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, step count, calorie), the Mi Band 5 now gets stress-reduction features like stress level monitoring, guided breathing exercises.
Moreover, there are women health-centric features as well including menstrual cycle tracking and ovulation phases which weren’t available on previous models. Notably, the Mi Band 5 is the first device from the company to get Personal Activity Intelligent mode. The mode calculates the heart rate data and other vital points, convert it into a personalized score, and indicate the level of activity required to maintain better health. Xiaomi has also added REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase-detection this time.
The new Mi Band 5 is claimed to offer 14 days of battery backup in regular usage and up to 21 days backup in power saving mode. The fitness band is said to take less than two hours to fully charge up. Other features on the band include- 5ATM water resistance, Night mode (that lowers the brightness level automatically on a schedule), music control, weather forecast, timer, alarm, notifications for text and calls, and camera shutter.
How To Set Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5
For setting up the Mi Smart Band 5 you are required to download the Mi Fit app. The app once downloaded created an account and tap on the ‘+’ button you will see on the top right corner. Search for the band on the app and connect it. To access the app and call notifications on the device you will be required to grant permissions (call logs, contacts, phone, storage, notifications, DND) on the Mi Fit app.

|Model Name||Price in India|
|Xiaomi Mi Band 5 (XMSH10HM)||INR 2,499|
The new Xiaomi Smart Band 5 looks a solid tracker (at least on paper) for its price. With the added features, the band makes a good option for first-time buyers. However, if you already own a Mi Band (specifically the Mi Band 4), it won’t make much sense to upgrade.
Few caveats of the Mi Band 5 (Indian variant) are the absence of NFC support, the Xiaomi voice assistant, and pulse oximeter for SpO2 readings which are available on the Chinese variant. But you get a bigger display, customized watch faces, decent battery backup, and iOS compatibility for an affordable price.
