WhatsApp Rumored To Receive Multiple Device Support With Same Number

No doubt, WhatsApp is a popular and widely used messaging platform globally. The app often gets new features and improvements, which are initially tested among the beta community and thrown open to the public after thorough testing.

According to rumors via WABetaInfo, the Facebook-owned company is gearing up to add a new feature with which you can use the same mobile number on multiple devices such as smartphones or tablets. However, this feature is still in its infancy and will take a few months to come out of the beta stage.

The WABetaInfo team had identified this new feature in November 2019. However, they found more clinching evidence with regard to the upcoming multiple mobile device support while playing with the latest version of WhatsApp beta APK.

The WABetaInfo took to Twitter and revealed that you will be notified when a person adds a new device in their WhatsApp account. The notification is being done because of the change in the encryption keys. The Twitter feed also includes dual screenshots with reference to future availability for Android and iOS platforms.

According to WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta version was able to trigger different event messages, which references multiple device support when the encryption keys are changed. If the rumored feature becomes a reality, you will be able to make use of your WhatsApp account on multiple devices using the same mobile number. You will be able to verify accounts in the native WhatsApp messaging app on multiple devices. As of now, you can only use one WhatsApp account per device. The app performs the required verification via SMS during the installation process.

The new multiple devices feature is reportedly under development stage. It will take nearly 6 to 12 months for the feature to go live since the company needs to test all the parameters. There are reports that the functionality will work identically to that of WhatsApp Web, where one primary device needs to remain online.

WhatsApp is prone to security issues with hackers gaining control of accounts silently on the background. The upcoming feature will have its own security issues and the company should sort out the issues first before handing over the release to the general public. That being said, the ability to use WhatsApp on multiple smartphones is a welcome move. We will continue to keep track of the developments surrounding WhatsApp.
