You can choose an option based on your requirements. The messaging app will make use of a dark grey background. However, downloading of APK file is prone to security issues such as malware and spyware. You should always adopt safe route by enrolling yourself in the beta channel not only for the Dark Mode but also for other upcoming features.

With the availability of the Dark Mode feature in the beta platform, the company will most likely throw open to the general public within the next few days. The app is being constantly upgraded as per the changing times.

Moreover, the company has stopped support for Windows mobile smartphones and outdated Android platforms citing an inability to infuse the new features. Going forward, WhatsApp will be made available only for the latest Android operating platform due to the increase in security vulnerabilities.
