Samsung’s New Pocket-sized External SSD T7 Touch Offers Fingerprint Authentication

The South Korean tech giant – Samsung has announced a first-of-its-kind solid-state drive (SSD) that takes care of both speed and security of your external storage, or at least that’s what it claims to do. Samsung took a stage here at CES 2020 to announce the launch of the all-new Portable Solid State Drive (SSD) T7 Touch.

From its description, this one seems like a complete package to us from every angle, be it design or security or anything else. Let’s see what exactly the company brings to the table with its latest offering at CES 2020 trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

First things first, let’s get its design out of the way. The SSD is sleek and compact in design and it’s available in black and silver finish. Samsung also claims to provide users with the fastest transfer speeds currently available based on the USB 3.2 Gen 2 standard. But the main talking point of this SSD has to be its unconventional data protection mechanism. Believe it or not, this one packs additional hardware, courtesy of a built-in fingerprint sensor.

According to Samsung, this SSD has been designed with both professional and casual users in mind. Users can securely store pictures, games, videos from PC, tablet, smartphone or even game console and portability doesn’t seem to be much of an issue since that’s exactly the idea behind this SSD.

Samsung claims the T7 Touch is a significantly faster upgrade over previous storage solutions, and it may very well be nothing but true. It may be twice as fast as its predecessor the T5, courtesy of the read speed of 1,050MB/s and the write speed of 1,000MB/s.

The T7 Touch’s built-in fingerprint scanner is additional security for a reason. Well, Samsung SSDs traditionally offer password protection and AES 256-bit hardware encryption. The new SSD weighs in at 58 grams and is currently being showcased at the ongoing CES 2020.

Samsung Portable SSD T7 Touch Price & Availability

The Samsung T7 Touch SSD is available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options. On the connectivity front, it supports devices with USB Type-C-to-C cable and a USB Type-C-to-A cable. It’s compatible with Windows, Mac and Android operating systems. The T7 Touch starts at $129.99 for the 500GB and goes all the way up to $399.99 for the 2TB.
