Xiaomi has finally launched two new smartphones, the Redmi 9 and Redmi 9A in Nepal today. The Redmi 9A is a budget-oriented handset which is a toned-down model of the Redmi 9 and a successor to last year’s Redmi 8A. Both the smartphones boast a 6.53-inch HD+ display.
With the launch of the Redmi 9 series, the company aims to offer value for money smartphones in the budget segment. The new smartphones in the Redmi 9 lineup feature up to four cameras on the back, Full HD+ screens and high capacity batteries to boot.
Sourabh Kothari, Country General Manager- Xiaomi Nepal, said “At Xiaomi we aim to make remarkable smartphone experiences accessible to everyone. Redmi 9 with its massive 5020 mAh battery and quad camera setup and Redmi 9A with its powerful 5,000 mAh battery and a 6.53” Dot Drop display are exceptional choices for entry level smartphones offered at honest pricing. We are thrilled to introduce both these smartphones to our Mi Fans and users in Nepal and we hope to continue bringing the best to them from the house of Redmi.”
Let’s take a look at the new Redmi 9A along with its specifications, features, availability and price in Nepal.
Redmi 9A Specifications and Features
The Redmi 9A sports a 6.53-inch (1600 x 720p) HD+ IPS DotDrop display. However, the Redmi 8’s display was protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. But there is no mention of any protective glass on the Redmi 9A. On the back of the smartphone, Redmi has moved the camera more to the top left corner. One can notice the strip starting from the camera module and running along the length of the handset. The rest of the rear panel looks clean as there is no presence of a fingerprint sensor.
The Redmi 9A is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G25 SoC, which is based on the 12nm process and is coupled with IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It’s a brand new chipset under MediaTek’s gaming-focused G-series. The smartphone comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable via a microSD card slot (up to 512GB).
Coming to the camera, the Redmi 9A boasts a 13MP AI camera with f/2.2 aperture enclosed inside a pill-shaped module alongside an LED flash. With that being said, we did see Redmi release Redmi 8A Dual with the dual-camera setup. So we can still be hopeful about Redmi 9A Dual. For selfies and video-calling, there is a 5MP camera on the front enclosed inside the waterdrop style notch.
The Redmi 9A packs a Li-Po 5,000mAh battery along with 10W charging support and comes with a USB Type-C port for charging. The phone runs on the latest Android 10 with MIUI on top. Also, the handset supports AI Face Unlock.
