Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro was recently launched in Nepal, and now the company has launched two new budget smartphones in the Nepalese market today, the Redmi 9 and Redmi 9A. To remind our readers, the Redmi 9 was earlier launched in Spain. It brings a design that rents from the Redmi K30 series.

The Redmi 9 is the successor to last year’s Redmi 8. In comparison with Redmi 8, there are some key design upgrades in key areas to make it more appealing to budget smartphone buyers. The rear of the smartphone has a matte grippy plastic panel that imitates the circular camera design of the Redmi K30.

Redmi 9 Specifications and Features

The Redmi 9 features a 6.53-inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) IPS LCD display with 19:5:9 aspect ratio, 394 PPI, 70% NTSC color gamut, 400 nits brightness. The display carries a waterdrop notch cutout for the selfie camera and is covered by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the top. The phone adopts a polycarbonate body with a matte finish. The phone is 9.1mm thick and weighs at 198 grams.

Inside, the Redmi 9 uses a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset with an octa-core CPU and Mali-G52 GPU. This is paired with up to 3GB/4GB LPDDRX RAM and up to 64GB eMMC 5.1 storage. 

Redmi 9 Camera Setup

The Redmi 9 gets a significant upgrade in terms of cameras. There’s a quad-sensor setup at the back, comprising of a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 118-degree field-of-view. There’s also a 5-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth camera. 

On the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera housed within the waterdrop notch cutout. The camera comes with some of MIUI’s usual camera tricks, one of them being the Kaleidoscopic mode.

The phone has a fingerprint sensor on the back and comes with a 5,020mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging out-of-the-box. However, Xiaomi bundles only a 10W charger in the box with the Redmi 9. There’s a USB-C port on the Redmi 9 for charging and data transfers. It runs on MIUI 12 which is based on Android 10.
