Huawei Mobile Services has successfully reached 400 million active users with over 1.3 million active developers. During the sidelines of the Huawei P40 launch event, Huawei Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu provided a comprehensive update on the overall situation revolving around the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) suite.
The latest development with over 400M active users is seen as a significant milestone in the quest of the company to mark a space in the mobile computing segment.
The HMS is one of the company’s most ambitious software projects, which is widely seen as an alternative to the Google Mobile Services aka GMS. In addition to the AppGallery store, the HMS includes Huawei Video, Huawei Music and Huawei Wallet. These services are now used by over 400 million monthly subscribers across 170 countries.
According to Yu, nearly 1.3 million developers were currently involved in the development of apps, games and other software applications for consumption by the HMS. Moreover, the service throws open a wide range of opportunities for emerging developers.
Huawei is also collaborating with not only the local but also global partners to deliver tailored and customized content for its users. Yu revealed the collaboration by Huawei with UK-based news outlets such as News UK, Talksport and The Sunday Times for the delivery of personalized real-time content in the form of news and articles.
In addition to content, Huawei also established partnerships with popular video streaming companies like Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Music Group, Paramount and BBC Studios. According to the company sources, the move will make use of the new collaborations to expand the content library.
The company also expressed the willingness to work with app developers who have not yet created an app for the HMS platform. Yu also invited the developers to tap the rich potential of the HMS ecosystem. Huawei is really working hard to compete with the Google Play Store, which has got a wide user base.
Huawei smartphones are normally not budget-friendly and hence people opt for Android smartphones with Google Play Store. The company should slash the cost of its smartphones if they really want to compete with Google. The availability of a budget Huawei smartphone will help tech-savvy enthusiasts to play around with the HMS platform effectively.
